Marquez Valdes-Scantling’s new locker is right next to the locker of quarterback Aaron Rodgers. That may enable him to learn the Steelers’ offensive system quicker after he signed with the practice squad and practiced with the team for the first time. The eight-year veteran said he felt that Rodgers convinced the Steelers that he would be a good fit in the wide receivers’ room.
Rodgers says Valdes-Scantling will be a quick study.
Rodgers says signing with the practice squad is a good deal for both the player and the team, and he sees in-game contributions from practice squad players all the time.
Rodgers says he appreciates the attitudes of guys like Pat Freiermuth and others who have not had statistically big years, and it’s paying off.
A lot of players missed practice yesterday with a variety of injuries, including linebacker Alex Highsmith (who earlier in the day was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week), tight end Darnell Washington, guard Isaac Seumalo, safety Jabrill Peppers, linebacker Cole Holcomb, wide receiver Scotty Miller, and cornerback Cory Trice.
