IUP has announced that the proposed College of Osteopathic Medicine will receive $1.9 million from the fiscal year 2026 federal budget that was approved this week.
The money is part of $6.5 million in community projects for Southwestern Pennsylvania that were supported by Congressman Guy Reschenthaler in the agriculture appropriations bill. IUP President Dr. Michael Driscoll thanked Congressman Reschenthaler along with Congressman Glenn “G.T.” Thompson and Pennsylvania’s Senators Dave McCormick and John Fetterman for their votes in favor of the budget. He said that the university was very fortunate to have legislators who believe in IUP and in the power of public higher education, and especially in the potential impact of a college of osteopathic medicine in the present and future of rural healthcare.”
The $1.9 million will be used to support facility infrastructure, equipment and other project-related expenses.
