IUP opens the NCAA Division II playoffs today at home against Assumption, and head coach Paul Tortorella says his team has essentially been in playoff mode already. He points to key wins over Cal, Edinboro, and Clarion as proof the Crimson Hawks earned their spot.
Assumption will arrive without top quarterback Jay Kastantin, who’s out with a season-ending knee injury. Backup Dom Santiago impressed in his first start last week, throwing for 258 yards and three touchdowns. Tortorella expects Assumption’s offense to stay dangerous either way.
Both squads also faced Kutztown this year: Assumption was routed in its opener, while IUP narrowly lost 28–23 last week.
Assumption coach Andy McKenzie, a Pennsylvania native, says he respects IUP’s long-standing tradition and knows his team must play its best to advance.
Kickoff is tonight at Miller Stadium.
