On the first full day of Spring Training, long time Pirates outfielder Jack Suwinski has been designated for assignment.
He was notably absent from the first day of the full-team practice today. The Post-Gazette reports that this will clear a spot on the 40-man roster for DH Marcell Ozuna. If he clears waivers, he is likely to go to the Pirates farm system and then elect free agency.
The Pirates did sign him to a one-year, $1.25 million deal this offseason to avoid arbitration in November.
