In the District 6 Girls Triple-A quarterfinals last night (see updated schedule and brackets), Marion Center took on Heritage Conference neighbor West Shamokin and the Stingers shook off some rust to advance to the semifinals. Todd Marino has the story.
Stingers coach Amy Trimble says her team hustled, reminding of her old IUP coach Tom McConnell, who used to preach “high fives and floor burns.”
Trimble says the Stingers are thankful that the tough Heritage Conference gets team playoff-ready.
In the semis on Monday, Marion Center will tangle with another Heritage Conference opponent, Cambria Heights, which knocked off Central Martinsburg, 40-31.
In the rest of the Triple-A girls bracket, Penns Valley visited short-handed River Valley. Mark Bertig has the recap.
River Valley coach Juan-Pedro Reyna says his girls never gave up despite adversity all season long.
Reyna will turn his attention to offseason development of a very young team.
Top seed Central Cambria completed the bracket with a 54-10 win over Phillipsburg-Osceola.
In Girls Double-A, United took a 10-point lead after one quarter and set the tone for a 46-37 win over Bellwood-Antis. The Lions will play top seed Penns Manor in Monday’s semifinal, meaning there will be at least one Heritage Conference team in the District 6 title game at Mount Aloysius next Thursday night.
Kendall Bednarski scored 30 points, hitting six three-pointers, as Portage topped Southern Huntingdon, 54-45. Portage will play Bishop McCort on Monday. The Crushers lived up to their nickname, beating Claysburg-Kimmel, 74-23.
Tonight, Cat Country 106.3 FM has the District 6 Boys Triple-A matchup featuring 4th-seeded River Valley hosting number 5 Penn Cambria. We’re on the air at 6:45, with tipoff at 7.
