Aaron Rodgers told The Pat McAfee Show yesterday that the Steelers have not made a formal contract offer to him, that there has been “no progression” on contract talks, and that anyone expecting a decision from him on returning to football or to the Steelers should just “shut it off…” at least for now.
Rodgers’ contract with the Steelers expires next Wednesday at 4 PM, when the new NFL year officially begins.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported yesterday that the Steelers have told Jonnu Smith that they will release him, in a move that will save them $7 million in salary cap space. The former Pro Bowl tight end caught 38 passes for 222 yards in his one season in Pittsburgh, scoring three touchdowns.
