Marguerite Marie (Kirsch) Thornton, 62, passed away on Saturday, March 21st, at Indiana Regional Medical Center, after succumbing to a long battle against cancer. She was the daughter of Anna (Burley) and Florentz Kirsch. Marguerite was born November 8, 1963.
Marguerite graduated from Penns Manor High School in 1981. She later served many years as Guidance Secretary at that same school, and was spending her retirement years from there focused primarily on spending quality time with her beloved children and grandchildren.
Marguerite was a member of Saint Nicholas parish, Nicktown, PA. While her faith was very important to her, and helped her immensely in her cancer battle, she was above all else a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and caring for her family was the driving force behind essentially everything she did. Nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her children and grandchildren, especially her grandchildren. Since the birth of the first of those three gems, she joyfullly began answering to “Nana” to all who knew her well. Marguerite was the seventh of nine siblings, including five brothers and three sister; Mary Lou, Theresa, and Jolene. Those three were also very, very important to her, especially Mary Lou. She also reserved a special place in her heart for her brothers Curtis and Greg, as well as the children of all of her siblings. This list would not be complete without a mention of her very best “buddy”, Deneen Beer.
Marguerite is survived by her husband of 44 years, Randy Thornton who she married on September 5, 1981, three children; Jenn Thornton, Matt (Brittnie) Thornton, and Rheanna (Dylan) Toy, and three grandchildren; Liam and Harper Toy and Oliver Thornton, .
Marguerite was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Curtis.
Friends and family will be received on Wednesday, March 25, 2026 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the McCabe-Roof Funeral Home, 565 Franklin Street, Clymer. Marguerite’s life will celebrated during her Funeral mass on Thursday, March 26, 2026 at 10 am at Saint Patrick’s Church, Cameron’s Bottom.
