Rita L. Levy, 93, of Punxsutawney, died Sunday, April 5, 2026, at her home.
She was born February 6, 1933, in Worthington, a daughter of the late Birdie (Bowser) and David Johns.
On November 24, 1955, she married the late John Levy, who preceded her in death on September 18, 2012.
Rita was a member of the First Baptist Church of Punxsutawney. She was a graduate of Worthington High School. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, volunteering for charities, cooking, gardening, and playing bridge. She was a lifelong giver to her church and community. She spent time volunteering as a lunch lady at Mary A. Wilson school and later SS.C.D. school. Rita was also a longtime volunteer at the Van Dyke Dance Company.
She is known as a huge Pittsburgh sports fan, but had a special place in her heart for the Pittsburgh Penguins.
She joined the Beta sorority in 1966 and served as treasurer and was voted the Punxsutawney Woman of the Year in 2022.
Surviving relatives include two children, son Rick Levy and wife Sonia of Lakewood Ranch, FL, and daughter Beth Wright of Enola, PA; five grandchildren, Sage Levy and fiancée Diana Nolf, Spencer Levy and fiancée Caroline Dunkel, and Piper, Austin, and Logan Wright; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Olabelle Huth and Betty Johns and a brother Delson “Doc” Johns.
Friends will be received from 5:30 to 7 p.m., Thursday, April 9, 2026, at the First Baptist Church of Punxsutawney.
A private service will be held immediately following the visitation at 7 p.m. with Pastor Michael Wilbur officiating.
Interment will be in Circle Hill Cemetery, Punxsutawney.
