SOFTBALL
Homer-Center kicked off a visit to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee with a 10-0 win yesterday over Pikeview, West Virginia. Khylee Beer got the Wildcats off to a fast start with a three-run inside-the-park home run in the first inning, which was followed by Isabelle Rowland’s two-run triple and Kaylee Booth’s run-scoring single, which she followed later in the inning by stealing home. Then in the second, Beer hit her second inside-the-park homer and Madison Brendlinger followed with a two-run triple to make it 10-0. Beer, Bri Birchall, and Brendlinger all had two hits for the Wildcats. Bekah Marshall worked all five innings, giving up two hits and two walks and striking out eleven.
Homer-Center plays Manchester, Ohio today.
In Heritage Conference play, West Shamokin had to rally to beat Purchase Line on Wednesday, but in the rematch on Thursday the Wolves scored two in the first inning and added single runs in the third and fifth for a 4-0 shutout of the Red Dragons. The Wolves’ Leah Mondi struck out eight and gave up four hits and no walks for the win. Five different West Shamokin batters had hits and Cameron Vandervort drove in two runs. Purchase Line also had five hits by five different players.
Portage outscored Northern Cambria, 12-9. Mikaila McCoy was 5-for-5 to lead a 16-hit attack for the Mustangs. Adasyn Trusik had three hits and Kiera McCarty had two. Julia Mitory had three hits and Izzy McCabe had two hits, including a home run, for the Colts.
Conemaugh Valley beat Cambria Heights, 4-2.
BASEBALL
Marion Center pushed across a run in the first, then another in the fourth and two in the fifth, and the Stingers shut out Homer-Center, 4-0. Camden Rising went six-and-two-thirds innings and struck out six for MC and four Stingers each had a hit as Homer-Center’s Nash Budner went the whole way and gave up only four hits in the game. Drew Fisher had three hits and Eli Turk two for Homer-Center.
West Shamokin fell behind Purchase Line 5-0 but scored a run in the fourth, four in the fifth, and the game-winner in the bottom of the seventh for a 6-5 win over the Red Dragons. The Wolves had only four hits but Andrew and Nick Krizmanich each drove in two runs. Stephen Peruso, Micah Johnston, Christian Moyer, and Jacob Stein all had two hits for Purchase Line.
Conemaugh Township broke a 0-0 tie with three runs in the fourth, adding five more in the fifth and going on to a 10-1 win over United. Colin Dinyar had three hits for the Indians and Devin Lohr, Brayden McQueen and Gabe Valentine each had two. Dinyar struck out nine over five-and-a-third innings. Hayden Warrington had two of United’s three hits.
Northern Cambria blasted Portage, 14-1. Parker Shutty had three hits and drove in four runs for the Colts. Zach Cavallo and Zak Kirsch each had two hits and drove in two runs, and Brady Hoover and Levi Czar also had two hits. Reese Wagner and Connur Solley combined on a two-hitter for NC.
Cambria Heights edged Conemaugh Valley, 8-7. Carter Orosz and Nolan Clawson each had two hits for the Highlanders while Kyron Fields had three hits and Donnie Brown and Hunter Blough each had two for the Blue Jays.
