Heritage Conference teams played a lot of non-conference baseball and softball on Monday, and most came out on top.
BASEBALL
In-conference, a nine-run first inning set up Northern Cambria for an 11-4 win over River Valley. Zach Cavallo, Zak Kirsch, Braden Bougher, Brady Hoover, and Connur Solley all had two hits for the Colts. Zeke Doak had two hits for the Panthers.
Out of conference, Homer-Center blasted Glendale, 14-1. Dom Shinko had three hits, including a double and a triple, and he drove in three runs. Drew Fisher had two hits and drove in five runners. Collin Dunn also had two hits for the Wildcats and on the mound he threw three hitless innings, with Eli Turk finishing up the final two in the five-inning game.
Brendan James had three hits and drove in two runs and Ryan Felix had two hits as United beat Ferndale, 10-3.
Mo Valley scored two in the bottom of the seventh and beat Cambria Heights, 6-5. Bryce Lewis had three hits for the Highlanders and Carson Lobick had two.
SOFTBALL
In a Heritage Conference matchup, Homer-Center trailed Marion Center 4-0 entering the bottom of the third but scored four runs in each of the next two innings and seven in the fifth, coming away with a 15-7 win over the Stingers. The Wildcats got two hits apiece from Madison Brendlinger, Bri Birchall, Isabelle Rowland, and Jo Howard, and Brendlinger, Birchall and Khylee Beer all drove in three runs. For Marion Center, Brookelynn Hill had three hits.
In non-conference play, Leah Mondi had another fantastic day for West Shamokin, gibing up just one hit and walking none while striking out 12, and at the plate she had three hits, including a home run and a double, as the Wolves belted Punxsutawney, 9-0. Evie Grantz had three hits for West Shamokin and Cameron Vandervort had two.
United crushed Ferndale, 12-1, as Ella Worthington went 3-for-3 with a home run, and struck out 13 batters. Kenedi Fiochetta also had three hits and Worthington and Rebecca Dziagwa each drove in three runs.
Northern Cambria swept a doubleheader from Blacklick Valley, 14-2 and 20-4. Ava Messina cracked two home runs and drove in six in the first game and in the second game, nine Lady Colts each had a hit and they also drew ten walks and took advantage of six errors.
Portage lost to Windber, 16-5. For the Mustangs, two hits apiece for Kendall Stancovich, Reese Pinizzotto, and Brooke Stager.
Conemaugh Valley clobbered West Branch, 11-2.
Cambria Heights lost to Moshannon Valley, 6-5 as the Black Knights scored two in the bottom of the seventh. Brea Kountz had three hits for the Highlanders.
