PSAC TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIP
IUP senior Bryna Kelly led the Crimson Hawks to strong finishes Saturday on the final day of the PSAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, winning the women’s 100-meter hurdles in 14.28 seconds, earning PSAC Champion honors and All-PSAC recognition.
Others earning All-PSAC recognition included sophomore Matthew Cusatis, who was second in the men’s triple jump at 14.84 meters. That also earned All-PSAC honors as a team for IUP in the field events. Cusatis also earned a Division II Provisional.
Freshman Bella Brozeski also earned All-PSAC recognition, finishing second in the women’s 400-meter hurdles, at 1:02.06.
SOFTBALL
With a doubleheader sweep of Seton Hill on Saturday, IUP softball clinched the PSAC West regular-season title. The Crimson Hawks beat the Griffins 17-2 and 9-5.
IUP used some fourth inning offense in both games. The Crimson Hawks banged out 18 hits in the five-inning first game, scoring in every inning, including seven runs in the fourth.
In the second game, IUP put together an eight-run fourth inning.
To ensure a completely neutral championship tournament, the PSAC this year has moved the event to Grand Slam Park in Binghamton, New York, starting on Wednesday.
BASEBALL
IUP gave up a 4-2 lead and lost to UPJ, 6-5 in Game 1 of a doubleheader on Saturday. But the Crimson Hawks rallied in Game 2 to beat the Mountain Cats, 6-2.
Late-inning rallies defined Saturday’s PSAC baseball doubleheader at Dougherty Field as IUP split with Pitt-Johnstown, falling 6-5 in Game 1 before bouncing back for a 6-2 win in Game 2.
With the split, IUP earned the second seed in the PSAC West starting Wednesday at Slippery Rock.
