Connor Wietgrefe threw six shutout innings and Duce Gourson, Callan Moss, and Will Taylor all had two hits as Altoona beat Chesapeake 4-1 on Saturday.
Wietgrefe (3-1, 3.92 ERA) gave up just two hits and two walks and struck out eight. He did not allow a hit for the first four-and-a-third innings. The left-hander has been outstanding of late, allowing just one run and striking out 21 batters over his last sixteen innings pitched.
Gourson drove in two runs and Moss and Taylor one each. Both Gourson and Moss doubled and walked and Taylor also had a double.
Altoona has not named its starter for the series finale today.
