Altoona opens a six-game series in Akron tonight with Peyton Stumbo on the mound. The Curve started the season 0-11 and have rebound to 28-35, putting them in fifth place of the six teams in the Eastern League Southwest Division. The Rubberducks are third in the standings, at 32-30.
The first half of the season ends with this series, then the teams start fresh for the second half. Under the Eastern League format, the teams with the best winning percentages in the first and second halves of the season each a playoff spot. If the same team wins both halves, the team with the next-best full-season winning percentage within its own division makes the playoffs.
