A heat wave is expected to start today in Indiana County and run until the 4th of July holiday.
AccuWeather reports that high temperatures will reach the mid-80s today, with the heat index going up to 95. By Wednesday, air temperatures will get to 92 with feels-like temperatures going to exceed 100 degrees, which is expected to break records set in 1969. The first chance of precipitation all week will be Thursday, with a chance of afternoon thunderstorms, but the heat will be in place during the day Friday, with temps staying in the mid-to-upper 90’s. AccuWeather predicts that while the heat wave will break for the 4th of July, temperatures will still be in the 90s for that day and there may be the possibility of some thunderstorms.
AccuWeather Meteorologist Peyton Simmers says the extreme heat is being caused by a heat dome that’s moving out of the west.
People are being advised to stay hydrated, limit strenuous labor during the hottest parts of the day, stay in air conditioned environments when possible, and to watch for signs of heat-related illnesses.
