PENGUINS GET TO WORK WITH YOUNG PROSPECTS THIS WEEK

The Penguins drafted six players over the weekend, including the Ruck brothers, Liam and Markus, in the first and second rounds. They also chose two defensemen, a forward and a goaltender, and the Pens hope to have all of them in Cranberry today for the start of the five-day Penguins Prospect Development Camp, depending on travel considerations.

Vice President of Player Personnel Wes Clarke is excited to get to work with the Ruck brothers.

Clarke says the twin brothers bring great skill and talent to the ice, but he’s most excited that they have “hockey smarts.”

Penguins legend Ron Francis was just re-hired by the team to work as Special Advisor to Hockey Operations. Francis says Pens president Kyle Dubas has a lot of plans for him.

Thirty-eight players are invited to the development camp, including five goaltenders, eighteen forwards, and fifteen defensemen. Three players, including one of last year’s three number-one draft picks, are expected to attend but are injured. Will Horcoff won’t lace up his skates, nor will Melvin Fermstrom or Mac Swanson.

The Pens split the group into three teams, Team Barrasso, Team Murphy, and Team Rutherford, named in honor of three Penguins legends.
