The start of the school year for Homer-Center has been postponed from this Thursday until September 1st due to mold spores discovered at the district’s elementary school. In a statement and video, Superintendent Ralph Cecere says the aspergillus spores were discovered in “a few classrooms” at the school.
An air quality testing agency is conducting air quality tests in every classroom, and ServPro has been contracted to clean every classroom, after which the air quality will be tested again. Cecere explains what happened.
The chiller has been adjusted to run constantly and the district is working with their mechanical contractor to make the chiller reset automatically in the event of another outage.
The superintendent posted the video on Saturday. He outlines the process that is already underway, and the desire to get students back in the classroom safely.
The elementary school building will be closed to all until its declared safe to go back in, and while the high school is not affected by mold, the start of the school year for the entire district will be delayed, and that includes CTC students.
