The Steelers were back to work at their South Side facility yesterday, working out for the first time since Friday’s shutout loss to the Jets at Acrisure Stadium. The day started with video review and meetings before they hit the practice field.
Playing young quarterbacks Will Howard and Drew Allar, the Steelers’ offense sputtered, Howard throwing two interceptions and getting sacked once, and Allar getting sacked three times, and having four passes dropped by some butter-fingered receiver. Offensive coordinator Brian Angelichio says don’t just blame the quarterbacks for the sluggish performance.
Defensive coordinator Patrick Graham was concerned that his first-team defense gave up a touchdown drive on the Jets’ first possession. He said they weren’t ready to play.
With only one preseason game left, Thursday at Buffalo, coach Mike McCarthy has aligned his practices with a typical game week, starting with yesterday’s session, which lined up with a typical Monday.
The Steelers have released kicker Laith Marjan, so veteran Chris Boswell will suit up Thursday and see his first game action of the preseason.
Three cornerbacks visited the Steelers yesterday. They hosted former Eagles corner Eli Ricks, ex-Seahawks, Giants and Browns corner Dee Williams, and Jaylon Guilbeau, an undrafted free agent released/injured last month by the Panthers. They’ve not announced any signings.
