John Carl Buterbaugh, 81, of Marion Center, PA went to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 10, 2026 from the Indiana Regional Medical Center in Indiana, PA.
The son of Richard Archie and Fannie Mae (DeHaven) Buterbaugh, he was born on December 16, 1944 in Grant Twp., Indiana Co., PA
John was a graduate of the Marion Center High School.
A Vietnam Veteran, all but a few months of his nearly three year Army enlistment was spent serving overseas. John served as a SP4, with his last duty assignment being with Company A 24th Sig Battalion.
He wed Donna L. (Rhoades) on July 15, 1967. They celebrated their fifty-ninth anniversary this summer.
A man of faith, John was an active member of the Calvary Bible Church in Nashville, Grant Twp., Indiana Co., PA.
After his military service, John began a thirty-two year career working as a coal miner at the Greenwich Collieries. For more than a decade John was employed as a corrections office, where his later working years were at SCI Pine Grove in Indiana, PA.
John was a UMWA member and a member of the Clymer American Legion Post #222.
An outdoorsman, he loved fishing and spending time at the beach.
With an innate talent for fixing things, John enjoyed tinkering and working with his hands on projects.
Known for his friendly, approachable manner, John was a natural born conversationalist. He thoroughly enjoyed meeting and speaking with others, including folks he had never previously met before.
His favorite way to spend his time was being surrounded by his wife, Donna and their family.
In addition to his wife Donna, John is survived by his three daughters: Tammy Buterbaugh of Indiana, PA; Lori Plueckhahn of Indiana, PA and Ronda Dockery and husband Leon of Ruther Glen, VA; his three grandchildren: Anthony and Amber Plueckhahn and Chelsea Cornetto; his three great grandchildren: Sklar Pheobus; Kaydence Plueckhahn and Lyvia Langham and his many nieces, nephews and extended family.
John was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Kevin Edward Buterbaugh; his son-in-law, Michael Cornetto and his five siblings: Ella Mae Buterbaugh; Royden D. Buterbaugh; Evelyn DeHaven; Ruth Daugherty and Ronald P. Buterbaugh.
Family and friends will be received from 10:00 a.m. to Noon on Monday, September 14, 2026 at the Rairigh Funeral Home, Ltd. in Hillsdale, PA, where a Noon funeral service will be officiated by Pastor John Traxler. Military honors will be observed by the Clymer American Legion Post #222. Interment will be at the East Mahoning Cemetery in Purchase Line, PA.
