The Steelers will have the day off today, and tomorrow they will get to work on stopping the NFL’s most potent passing combination, the Bengals’ Joe Burrow-to-Ja’mar Chase-and-Tee Higgins connection.
After Sunday’s loss to New England, in which they gave up several long passes by the Patriots’ Drake Maye, the defense will be pressed even more by Burrow.
But that’s not their only problem, according to coach Mike McCarthy. He says the video from Sunday’s game actually showed some good things but it also revealed he has a lot to fix.
McCarthy says his offense needs a lot of work, too, especially on third-down conversions. They were 3-for-13 against Atlanta in Week One, 2-for-12 against New England in Week Two.
The Steelers would love to have top cornerback Joey Porter Jr. on the field against the Bengals after he missed his second straight game on Sunday. McCarthy said Porter’s absence had nothing to do with his contract situation, and he won’t know his availability until Porter’s evaluated tomorrow.

Former Pitt star and future Hall of Famer Aaron Donald returned to the NFL last night, playing for the Rams in their 28-6 win over the Giants in Los Angeles. Donald played 32 snaps and made three tackles, one for a loss, plus a quarterback pressure. He drew seven double teams from Giants’ offensive linemen.
