Indiana County first responders were sent out to a reported structure fire at the John J. and Char Kopchick Hall on IUP’s campus.
The call was reported at 12:42 to the property on North Walk, and brought Indiana, Homer City, Clymer, Creekside and Coral fire departments along with the Emergency Management Agency team. IUP representatives said that the label of a beaker of an ethanol solution caught fire during a biology lab and triggered the fire alarms and an evacuation. The teacher placed the bottle in the fume hood to contain it and get rid of any vapors.
The fire was out by the time crews arrived. No damage was reported.
