The Steelers’ players are off today but coach Mike McCarthy’s staff and the team’s front office will be busy trying to plug some big holes, most notably defensive tackle Derrick Harmon and cornerback Jamel Dean. Various sources report that both will miss multiple weeks and could be headed for injured reserve, Harmon with a foot injury and Dean with a bad ankle.
One positive note: safety DeShon Elliott is eligible to return from injured reserve this week.
McCarthy is expected to speak to the media this morning and could have an injury update.
The Steelers hosted as many as nine players for workouts on Friday, one day after the loss to the Browns in Cleveland. Among the tryouts were former Patriots linebacker Chad Muma and former Jaguars linebacker Marte Mapu. Mapu has also played for the Colts and Patriots. Others reportedly turning up on the South Side were two other defensive players, edge rusher Cameron Sample and defensive back Miles Battle, along with four offensive linemen, tackles Tomas Rimac and Andrew Coker and centers Gus Hartwig and James Brockermeyer, and running back Terrell Jennings.
AFC NORTH GETS BEAT UP IN WEEK FOUR
The Steelers are not the only AFC North team suffering injuries to key starters in Week Four. The Ravens’ Lamar Jackson sprained his left ankle in their 24-18 win over the Titans, and the Bengals lost both of their star receivers, Ja-Mar Chase to a concussion and Tee Higgins to an adductor injury (thigh muscle). Cincinnati lost to the Jaguars, 22-17.
