On Monday, the Indiana Area Collaborative Team, better known as I-ACT held it’s traditional meeting to prepare for IUP Homecoming Weekend.
The team was formed about 12 year ago to coordinate responses to high celebratory events in an effort to keep the community safe. It also reports on the efforts of first responders over the weekend as they respond. I-ACT Public Information Officer Michelle Fryling said that the reports, which will come out over the weekend, are an important resource.
As far as law enforcement efforts go, IUP, Indiana Borough and State Police will be out in full force as they have in years past. Indiana Borough Police Lieutenant Eric Slovinsky said that they have already seen an uptick in activity. He said that they are keeping an eye on all sources for any information, including social media to get information on any events outside the University’s schedule.
Along with the regular patrols, the State Police mounted unit will also be in town. People are reminded that it is against state law to “intentionally or knowingly taunt, torment, tease, beat, kick or strike a police animal.” Doing so is a third-degree felony.
People are also advised that if they see anything suspicious, call 911 immediately.
