Steelers coach Mike McCarthy says he appreciates the great contributions of running back Jaylen Warren, but he can’t keep Warren in for series after series or he’ll wear down.
McCarthys says Rico Dowdle is expected to be ready to play again soon, maybe this week in Tampa Bay, and he’s not worried about finding carries for the veteran.
Dowdle has been out with a dislocated toe since the second game of the season, at New England.
The Steelers will bring veteran linebacker Elandon Roberts back to Pittsburgh as a member of the practice squad, according to McCarthy. Roberts was signed to the practice squad near the end of training camp but was only with the team for a few days before the final roster cuts were due and he was let go, which McCarthy called a “timing” decision.
McCarthy says the Steelers can use Roberts’ intensity.
Roberts is a ten-year veteran who played the 2023 and ’24 seasons with the Steelers before playing under current Steelers defensive coordinator Patrick Graham last season in Vegas.
McCarthy also said that wide receivers Roman Wilson and Ben Skowronek have already been ruled out of this Sunday’s game against the Buccaneers.
