The Pirates have signed former Chicago White Sox number one draft Choice Carson Fulmer to a minor league contract with an invitation to major league spring training.
Fulmer was the eighth overall choice in the 2015 draft. He was a college teammate of current Pirates Bryan Reynolds and Jason Delay at Vanderbilt, which won the national championship in 2014.
Fulmer pitched for the Angels last year, both as a starter and reliever, going 0-5 while throwing a career-high 86.2 inning. He had an ERA of 4.15 and 81 strikeouts and opposition batters hit .243 against the right-hander. For his career, Fulmer is 7-15 with a 5.38 ERA with the White Sox, Tigers, Orioles, Reds, and Angels.
Fulmer was claimed off waivers by the Pirates twice in 2020 but never pitched for them.
