IUP’s women trailed by 9 after one quarter and by 6 heading onto the fourth, but Ashland put together a big final 10 minutes to hand the Crimson Hawks their first loss of the season, 68-54.
IUP’s struggles from the field were evident again as they made just 20 of 55 shot attempts and were just one-for-12 on three-pointers. They were outrebounded 41-29 but they had a big edge in turnovers. IUP lost the ball 12 times to the Eagles’ 21.
Shamia Strayhorn led IUP with 16 points. Ny’Shae Weaver had 10.
IUP is 9-1 while 21st-ranked Ashland is 10-3.
The IUP women and men will play a doubleheader tomorrow at Millersville. The women tip off at 1 on 92.5 FM U92.
