IUP’s basketball teams both have tough games in a doubleheader against Gannon tonight at the KCAC.
The 12-2 Crimson Hawks women carry a 7-0 PSAC slate into their game against the Golden Knights’ 14-2 women, who are 6-1 in the conference. The two teams split their season series last year, with Gannon taking the first game by 16 points and IUP pulling off a 53-52 upset win in the rematch, when the Golden Knights were ranked second in the nation.
IUP’s Ellie Wilkerson is the PSAC West Athlete of the Week and Nyshae’ Weaver is the Defensive Player of the Week. Wilkerson scored 20 points against Daemen and 15 against Edinboro in two wins. Weaver, who was previously honored as Defensive Player of the Week in November and Athlete of the Week in December, scored 17 and 14 points in the two wins with 24 rebounds and three steals.
The Gannon men have this week’s PSAC West Athlete of the Week in forward Tasman Goodrick, who comes into tonight’s game against IUP averaging 15.4 points per game. After dropping their first two games this season, Gannon has run off twelve wins in a row and is 7-0 in the PSAC. They ripped Cal by 37 points on Saturday, 108-71. IUP is 7-7 and 3-4 in the conference. The Crimson Hawks lost their first two games this season, then won five in a row, but they have lost five of their last seven, including on Monday at Edinboro.
