The spring semester at IUP finally begins this week. After the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday, classes begin on Tuesday. Spring break will be March 10th through the 14th. The last day of classes will be May 5th, with Finals May 6th through the 9th and commencement on the 9th for master’s and doctoral students, and on the 10th for associate’s and bachelor’s degrees.
Last week, interim chancellor Christopher Fiorentino touted the mission of State System schools, writing in his blog that “more than 60% of jobs in Pennsylvania require education beyond high school, but only 53% of workers meet those qualifications.”
Meanwhile, the process of choosing a permanent successor to former Chancellor Dan Greenstein will accelerate rapidly in the coming months. According to the State System timeline, the eight-member search committee, which includes IUP Trustee Sam Smith, is to choose its first round candidates this winter and trim the field to second round candidates in the spring. After meetings with a number of stakeholder groups, the candidates will interview with the Board of Governors in the Spring, and the selection will be announced in a public meeting, with the new chancellor to begin work this summer.
