The Pirates have lost relief pitcher Elvis Alvarado to a waiver claim by the would-be Vegas A’s (who will play in Sacramento this season). Alvarado is a converted outfielder who pitched in the Marlins’ system last season and has yet to appear in the big leagues. The Bucs signed him to a split major league/minor league contract in December but designated him for assignment on Tuesday to open a roster spot for Adam Frazier.
