Mrs. Louise L. (McMillen) Jones, 93 of Derry, PA died on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at Independence Health System Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg, PA.
Louise was the widow of the late Robert “Bob” V. Jones who had passed away in 2014. Born Louise Lavine McMillen, she was born at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh. She was the only surviving child born to her parents, Haven H. McMillen and Caroline R. (Foust) McMillen Wertheimer. Louise spent her early childhood in Pittsburgh being raised by her mother and step-father, Charles “Sol” Wertheimer. They later moved to Indiana, Pennsylvania where Louise graduated from Indiana High School in 1949. She and Bob were married on October 26, 1949. The couple were married for 64 years. They lived in Indiana, but bought their home in Millwood in 1957 and had lived there ever since. Louise worked at Torrance State Hospital for 30 years where she had graduated from the Torrance School of Nursing. Louise enjoyed being a mother and grandmother. She enjoyed hobbies such as photography, reading, she loved history and travelling was her passion. She was to over 40 states and had traveled abroad seven times. She was a member of the Hillside Methodist Church. Louise was a member of the Derry Order of the Eastern Star, and later in the Blairsville Chapter, for over 50 years. She was a gifted painter and member of the Pittsburgh Porcelain Artists Association. Louise is survived by her two children, Penny L. Tennette of Derry, and Alan Jones (Tim Gabriel) of Pittsburgh; grandson, Joshua Ladd; great-grandchildren: Kelsey Steele, Jason Kern Jr., Jasmine Cottet and Sterling Grace. Louise was predeceased by a grandson, Jason Kern; two brothers, Charles and Harold Wertheimer and her cousin, Reafa McGraw.
The family will receive friends at the Ferguson Funeral Home & Monument Company, 25 W. Market St., Blairsville, PA on Friday, February 28, 2025 from 5-8 PM. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at 1 PM with Pastor Jack Lucas. Interment will be at the Oakland Cemetery, Indiana, PA.
