U.S. Senators Dave McCormick and John Fetterman have teamed up to reintroduce a bill to support mushroom farmers in Pennsylvania.
The “Protecting Mushroom Farmers Act” would require the US Department of Agriculture to conduct a study about offering federally-backed crop insurance aimed at those who cultivate mushrooms. After the study, the USDA could immediately start offering the insurance policies to farmers. Fetterman called Pennsylvania the “mushroom capital of the world” and said that they deserve the same access to insurance as other farmers.
A companion bill was also introduced in the U.S. House. Last session, this act and the companion legislation were introduced but never went to a vote.
