Firefighters across Indiana County have been busy battling brush fires over the last few days and they are asking residents to hold off on burning outdoors during the time.
So far, seven brush fires have been reported in Indiana County this year, five of which were reported on Tuesday, with more than 10 fire departments summoned to them. Indiana Fire Association Chief Lee Thompson said manpower is not easy to come by with the influx of calls, especially during the day.
With that in mind, Thompson had this message for residents that might consider burning over the next few days:
Cooler temperatures and steady rainfall are expected to come through the area during the rest of the week, but Thompson said that may not be enough to wipe away the potential for fires. If that wasn’t enough of a warning, the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources could hand out hefty fines if you’re found liable of starting a brush fire.
