BASEBALL
Homer-Center fell behind 5-0 and then stormed back with six unanswered runs for a 6-5 win over River Valley. A big day for Braden Dunn, who had three hits, including the game-winning home run in the top of the 7th, then pitched the bottom of the 7th and struck out two for the save. Brayden Rado had two hits for the Wildcats. Caden Vresilovec had three hits including a homer for River Valley. Gavin Steeves and Zeke Doak each had two hits and Doak and Merreck Smith each hit home runs.
The same two teams meet again today to avoid tomorrow’s predicted rain, and will play at the S&T Bank Field at the White Township Recreation Complex.
West Shamokin scored 5 in the first and 4 in the second on its way to a 14-0 win over Purchase Line. Freshman JJ Cessna had three hits, with two doubles for the Wolves. Luke McCullough spun a five-inning one-hitter, striking out five and walking three.
Down 5-3 in the bottom of the 6th, Northern Cambria scored nine runs to break open their game with Portage and beat the Mustangs 12-5 to remain undefeated. Shane Gisler and Shawn Gisler both had two hits and each homered for the Colts. Ben Messina also had two hits. Jordan Kelin had two hits for the Mustangs.
Cambria Heights gave up five in the seventh to fall behind United 12-10, but the Highlanders plated three in the bottom of the inning to walk off the Lions, 13-12. Bryce Lewis and Tristan Weakland each homered for Heights, Garrett Jasper and Anthony Swander had three hits each and Stephen Nelen, Nolan Clawson, and Carson Lobick each had two. For the Lions, Connor Darr and Shaydon Oleksa each had three hits, Oleksa driving in five runs, and Dmitri Worthington and Brendan James each had two.
Conemaugh Valley pushed across a run in the 8th to hand Conemaugh Township its first loss of the season, 4-3. Logan Heinlein had three hits, and Lance Masser and Wes Smith each had two for the Blue Jays. Brennan Lohr had two hits including a home run and Kaden Valentine had two hits for the Indians.
WPIAL
Indiana scored eight runs in the third and beat Highlands, 10-3. Caden Force was 3-for-3 with a double and Rocco Cosentino doubled as well.
SOFTBALL
Marion Center topped Penns Manor 8-2. Cheyenne Silvis struck out 11 Comets batters and Natalie Black was 3-for-4 with a home run.
Avery Elkin had three hits and Maya McIlwain, Leah Mondi, Briar McClafferty and Evie Grantz all had two in an 11-4 West Shamokin win over Purchase Line. Maddi Keirn homered for the Wolves. Bella Cessna and Rylee Mahaffey each had two hits and Kaitlynn Houser homered for the Red Dragons, who took their first loss of the season.
Northern Cambria scored three in the bottom of the seventh to walk off Portage 10-9 for their first win. Alyssa Yahner hit two home runs, Megan Lubert had three hits, and Sarah Abel two for NC. Payton Noll had three hits with a homer for the Mustangs and Kendall Stancovich had two hits.
Cambria Heights scored eleven in the first and clobbered United 17-0 in three innings. Alyssa Miller and Gina Lane each had two hits for the Highlanders.
Conemaugh Township wiped out Conemaugh Township, 15-0.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Indiana fell to Hampton, 5-3.
