BASEBALL
West Shamokin ran into big trouble in the seventh inning as Homer-Center rallied from a seven-run deficit for a 15-10 win. The Wildcats trailed 10-3 entering the top of the seventh but scored twelve runs on only three hits as Wolves pitchers walked four batters and hit four, and the fielders committed two errors. Each team had thirteen hits. For Homer-Center, Dom Shimko had three and Brayden Rado, Braden Dunn, and Collin Dunn all had two. For West Shamokin, Braden Talmadge had three hits and Gunnar Shoop, Luke McCullough, Gen McConnell, and Liam Scripps all had two.
Homer-Center now leads the Heritage Conference West with an 11-3 record but West Shamokin is tied with the Wildcats in the loss column at 9-3.
Just two days after losing to Northern Cambria by an 11-1 score, Conemaugh Township turns around and beats the Colts 11-0, handing them their first conference loss. CT did not enter stats for the game. Northern Cambria managed only one hit and a couple of walks. The Colts still lead the East at 13-1, while the Indians are 10-2.
Brady Bingaman and Coby Byers each had two hits to lead Purchase Line to a 10-7 win over Marion Center. No stats provided by the Stingers.
Cambria Heights handed Conemaugh Valley a 6-1 loss, led by two hits, one of them a homer, by Bryce Lewis. Ethan Kline and Garrett Jasper also had two hits for the Highlanders. Lance Masser and Wes Smith each had two hits for the Blue Jays.
SOFTBALL
Purchase Line had four hits by four different players and pushed across two runs in the third inning to hand Marion Center only its second loss of the season, 2-1. Freshman Alorra Phillips delivered the key hit, a two-run single for the Red Dragons. With both West Shamokin and Penns Manor having school canceled yesterday, they did not play their game, so the Wolves are 10-1 in the Heritage West, the Stingers 12-2.
Conemaugh Valley upset Heritage East leader Cambria Heights 3-0.
Portage beat United 11-0. Lyndsey Castel had two hits and Kiera McCarty homered for the Mustangs.
