The Better Business Bureau is offering advice to everyone who may have to do some major housework as a result of the strong storms that came through the area earlier this week.
Many are starting the process to get things fixed on their homes or businesses. The bureau is reminding people that it’s important to do the research on contractors and hold off on making any permanent repairs until you communicate with and receive approval from the insurance company.
Targeted ads promoting storm damage cleanup and door to door salespeople are common after massive events like the one we experienced. Along with contacting the insurance company, the BBB advises that you get information on contractors through their website, www.BBB.org. You should also check if they are insured and registered with the state Attorney General’s Office. They also advise against going with someone using high-pressure tactics, saying they will only get the deal if they are hired on the spot.
You should also be wary of door-to-door solicitors, obtain a written contract so that you can look over it thoroughly, and avoid any cash-only deals.
