This weekend will be a busy one for the Jimmy Stewart Museum as it celebrates its 30th anniversary.
Yesterday, the museum co-hosted a chamber of commerce after hours event at the Jimmy Stewart Airport where members got an up close and personal look at a P-15 Mustang “Tunderbird” plane. This was plane that Jimmy Stewart owned and was flown in competition in 1949 by Joe De Bona. The plane won the Bendix award in that competition, setting a speed record of 470 miles an hour. The public will get the chance to look at the plane this weekend at the airport from 2-4 today, 11-2 tomorrow and 1-3 on Sunday. This is in conjunction with a new temporary exhibit at the museum on the plane. Also as part of the Airport’s celebration, the Indiana County Emergency Management Radio Club will set up shop on Saturday to broadcast from the airport to Ham or Amateur radio operators across the world.
On Saturday, the Museum will celebrate Stewart’s Birthday and the birthday of the museum with the showing of Stewart’s Academy Award-winning film The Philadelphia Story at 1:00 PM. The museum will also hand out free Harvey cookies while supplies last. At 7:30 at the Indiana Theater, actor Brian Rohan will present a one man show, “Jimmy Stewart: On the Front of Life”. Admission is $10 when tickets are purchased in advance, and $15 at the door. A Q&A session will follow the show with Stewart’s daughter Kelly Harcourt Stewart and her cousin Sandy Hart. The Q&A will be moderated by WTAE’s Mike Clark.
