The Pirates’ season has been a nightmare so far, and it got worse yesterday, with a sweep at the hands of the Phillies and bad news on pitcher Jared Jones. Greg Brown recaps the loss to the Phils.

On The Ben Cherington Show on WCCS yesterday, assistant general manager Kevan Graves pinch-hit for the Bucs’ GM. Graves said the entire organization is impressed with the way manager Don Kelly is tackling his new job.
After the Pirates optioned Matt Gorski to Indianapolis to make room on the roster for Spencer Horwitz, Graves said they explained to the rookie Gorski that he could end up back in Pittsburgh.
Graves says the search for help at the plate continues for the Pirates, and while the trade market is traditionally quiet in the spring, they are looking.
Young star Jared Jones has not pitched since the middle of spring training and it doesn’t look good for a return anytime soon. Jones will be examined by orthopedic surgeon Dr. Keith Meister and Tommy John surgery on his sprained ulnar collateral ligament is an option. The Associated Press reports Jones will visit Meister tomorrow after suffering a “setback” during his throwing program.
On the rehab front, catcher Endy Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with a home run for Indianapolis in a 4-3 win over Louisville yesterday. Second baseman Nick Gonzalez was 0-for-4 as a DH.
