The start of June brings a changing weather picture this week for Indiana County and all of western Pennsylvania. After the cold, rainy month of May, the skies will dry out and temperatures will begin to rebound today. In fact, we’ll be in the mid-80s by the middle of the week, but a weather influencer we’ve become increasingly familiar with the last few summers returns: Canadian wildfires. Accuweather says the thick Canadian smoke will “obscure the sky” on Tuesday, blocking a mostly sunny day.
It’s the third straight summer that the wind patterns have carried Canadian wildfire smoke south into the United States. According to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, the smoke can irritate eyes and lungs, especially for those with compromised health, and you should reduce your exposure to it by keeping doors and windows closed and using an air filter.
The smoke is coming from more than 200 wildfires burning mainly in Manitoba.
