At last night’s school board meeting, Indiana School District Superintendent Robert Heinrich said that he would like the board to consider some changes in order to reduce chronic absenteeism.
Heinrich stated that about 16% of the student body were absent 10 days or more, and that is causing some academic performance problems.
He wants to work on accelerating the policies, making it three absences before a warning letter is issued, consult with the magistrates on speeding up the truancy process, and incentivizing attendance.
During the meeting, the board approved a resolution that says the school district supports the Pennsylvania Commision for the United States Semi quincentennial, and to approve students and a teacher to take part in the Indiana County Fife and Drum Corps that will perform at various events as part of that celebration.
