A Cherry Tree man faces charges connected with a shooting that happened Saturday in Cambria County.
State troopers from the Ebensburg Patrol and Crime Units were sent out at 10:25 PM on June 7th to the 4100 block of Crawford Avenue in Northern Cambria Borough. Troopers were advised when they arrived that a 17-year-old boy was shot in the leg and taken to an area hospital. Witnesses and the victim told police that 21-year-old Joshua McKendrick was seen waiving a 40-caliber pistol several times that evening while the group was partying. A verbal argument over the gun ensued and the victim tried to grab it out of McKendrick’s pocket, but he prevented him from doing so and it went off. McKendrick fled the scene but was found in Indiana Borough shortly after that and was taken into custody without further incident.
McKendrick is charged with a felony count of carrying a firearm without a license and misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment and tampering with evidence. After his arraignment hearing, he was sent to Cambria County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail. A preliminary hearing is set for June 17th.
