The budget is due three weeks from today, and state legislators are getting ready to dig into the details on the state’s spending plan.
State Representative Jim Struzzi said that the process has started with several housekeeping bills to fund some of the offices have moved to the Senate Appropriations Committee. He also said that other pieces have come through, many of them initiatives from Governor Josh Shapiro, including the recreational marijuana bill that failed in the senate and the recent cyber charter school bill.
Struzzi said that one of the big issues of this year’s budget was the Governor’s spending request, which comes to almost $52 billion. Struzzi said that revenues will not even come close to filling the gap.
Other issues on the horizon include cyber charter school funding, skill game regulations and minimum wage. Those may come up for discussion as the House Appropriations Committee will meet today, tomorrow and Wednesday. The state house will also be in session today starting at noon.
