James Merrit Goodyear, Jr., 92, passed away on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at his home in Clymer, Pennsylvania.
He was the son of James Merrit Goodyear and Alfreda Dorothy Wasiek, born on April 7, 1933 in Cadogan, Pennsylvania. He married Doris Jane Kammerdiener, his beloved partner, on April 28, 1956 at St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church in Cadogan. Together, they raised seven children and also nurtured their grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews.
“Jimmy,” as he was known by all, served his country as a member of the Army during the Korean War. He spent his working life as a coal miner in western Pennsylvania. Jimmy was an avid fisherman, with favorite fishing spots being Mahoning Dam, Lake Erie, the Chesapeake Bay, and Oregon Inlet at the North Carolina Outer Banks. He especially enjoyed spending time at the beach with his wife of 65 years.
Immediate family who will cherish his memory are six children, Rick (Rosie) Goodyear of MD, Mike Goodyear of OR, Tony (Karen) Goodyear of MD, Susie Goodyear (Mark Harper) of MD, Greg (Tammy) Goodyear of PA, and Sally Goodyear (Jeff Stumpf) of PA; one daughter-in-law, Cindy of FL; 14 grandchildren, Doug (Melissa) Goodyear, Josh (Jes) Goodyear, Steve Goodyear, Chris Goodyear, Calaina (Phil) Green, Sage Goodyear, Andrea Davis (Justin Mash), Brian Davis (Meredith Fay), Trista (Eric) Barilar, Ryan (Bella) Goodyear, Tanya Eiselman (Shawn Mercer), Kevin (Kim) Eiselman, Devin (Andrew) Fox, Connor McClain, and ten great-grandchildren.
Jimmy is survived by a brother Charles (Barbara) Goodyear, of NJ, and two sisters, Jean Turicik, of PA, and Kathy (Jim) Dunmire, of PA; and two sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law, Peggy (James Stickel) of TN, Judy Smock of New Bethlehem, PA and Roger (Ladonna) Kammerdiener of Clymer, PA.
He was preceded in death by his wife Doris Goodyear, son David Goodyear, daughter-in-law Bonnie Goodyear, and sisters Nancy Shumaker and Sharyn Shaffer.
A memorial service celebrating Jimmy’s life will be scheduled for a future date. Memorial donations may be made to 365 Hospice, 119 S. Main St. Carrolltown, PA 15722. The McCabe~Roof Funeral Home, 565 Franklin St., Clymer PA., is assisting the Goodyear family.
