At the NHL Draft last night, many eyes were on the Pens as they held the 11th and 12th picks in Round 1. While they kept the higher pick, they traded the 12th pick to the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for the 22nd and 31st picks in the first round. With their first of three first round picks, the Pens picked up 18-year-old center Ben Kindel, a 5-10, 181-pounder from the Western Hockey League’s Calgary Hitmen.
The second selection by the Pens last night was Bill Zonnon with the QMJHL’s Royun-Noranda Huskies. He is an 18-year-old winger. But shortly after he was picked, the Pens GM and President of Hockey Operations Kyle Dubas wheeled and dealed again, acquiring the 24th pick in Round 1 from the LA Kings for the 31st pick and a pick in Round 2, the 59th overall.
Moving up in order, the Pens acquired 6-foot-5, 203-pound center Will Horcoff from the University of Michigan. The rest of the draft is today, with the Pens having three picks in Round 3, one in Round 4, two in Round 5, and one in Rounds 6 and 7.
