The Penguins’ prospect development camp begins on Thursday, and the team is expecting to have all thirteen of their draft picks on the ice in Cranberry. The team will introduce the class today at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex. The Penguins drafted eight forwards, four defensemen, and a goaltender on Friday and Saturday.
After the draft was complete on Saturday, vice president of player personnel Wes Clark says it’s a lot of players to introduce into the Penguins’ system.
Clark is excited to see a lot of fresh talent in the Penguins’ pipeline.
The Penguins’ highest draft choice was the eleventh overall selection, forward Ben Kindrel, who was not as highly rated as other players they passed on. Clark says they have liked Kindrel’s potential for a very long time.
The Penguins also traded defensemen Conor Timmins and Isaac Belliveau to Buffalo on Saturday, and in return they got defenseman Connor Clifton and were able to move up in the second round to select coveted defenseman Peyton Kettles.
