Governor Josh Shapiro is expressing some concern over the Pennsylvania budget, which is now over three weeks late.
In a stop in Lewistown to promote the Main Street Matters Program, Shapiro said that negotiations have been in his words, “cordial” and “respectful”, but was frustrated with how much time it was taking to get the spending plan passed. He continues to remain hopeful that common ground can be found.
School districts in Indiana County and across the state are concerned about how much money they will receive as part of the budget. At least one district in the county has taken out a tax anticipation note to help pay employees until the state money comes in. County governments are also getting ready for their budget season and are awaiting a clear picture on state funding.
Sticking points on the budget this year include how much to tax and regulate “skill games”, human services spending, and spending for education.
