Indiana Fire Association Members were busy yesterday with a physical rescue and what was initially reported as a structure fire.
The rescue was reported at 119 Professional Center on Wayne Avenue in White Township at 4:58 PM. Indiana Fire Association officials said that a child was locked in a car, and every time they tried to use their tools to unlock the car, the door automatically re-locked. They resorted to breaking a window to get to the child, who was not hurt in the incident.
The other call was first reported as a fire at 1-2-3 Lock and Key at the intersection of Warren Road, Indian Springs Road and Ben Franklin Road at 6:28 PM. Officials on-scene said a halogen landscape light flopped downward and beamed a steady light on a patch of mulch, heating it to the point of minor combustion. A passerby saw the smoke and reported it. While Indiana, Homer City, Coral-Graceton, Creekside and Altman fire departments were sent out along with the HAZMAT team and Citizens Ambulance, everyone except Indiana was sent back as the fire was put out quickly. No structural damage was reported.
