The Pirates two-game winning streak was snapped last night as the San Francisco Giants won for the first time in the last five tries. Joe Block reports.
Reliever Cam Sanders was called up to the Bucs from Triple-A Indianapolis. Pirates Manager Don Kelly said that Sanders did well in the two innings of relief he threw.
In a corresponding move, Johan Oviedo was sent down to Indianapolis after his start on Monday lasted only one inning.
Mike Burrows went 4 and two-thirds innings, giving up six runs on five hits, walked three and struck out three. Kelly talked about Burrows facing the Giants twice in a week.
Mike Burrows called it a bit of a challenge to face the same time in such a short time frame.
The Bucs still have a shot at winning the series with a victory this afternoon. The Pirates will send Andrew Heaney to the mound. He’s 5-9 with a 4.89 ERA. Robbie Ray will start for the Giants. He is 9-5 with a 2.85 ERA. Airtime is 12:10 this afternoon on WCCS with a 12:35 first pitch.
