Several preliminary hearings are on the schedule for Indiana County’s district courts today, including one for an inmate charged with assaulting a jail employee.
District Judge Christopher Welch will hear the case against Ryan Patrick Nelson of Indiana. The 25-year-old is charged with four counts each of assault by prisoner against an employee and aggravated harassment by a prisoner along with two counts of aggravated assault with an attempt to cause bodily injury. The incident was initially reported on May 24th of this year.
Also due in court today is 21-year-old James David Shaffer of Clymer. He is charged with possession of a weapon, simple assault and reckless endangerment for an incident on July 7th. He has been free on $10,000 since his arrest.
