At a special meeting Thursday night, the Homer-Center School Board approved applying for the T-Mobile “Friday Night 5G Lights” competition.
The program started last year, and it sought to give grants to schools across the nation to help them upgrade facilities. This year, the competition will give away weekly $5,000 awards, and 25 finalists will receive $25,000 to upgrade their programs. The winning school at the end of the competition will receive a $1 million grant for facility upgrades.
Superintendent Ralph Cecere talked about how the Homer-Center fans can help the district win.
In other business, the board made several hires, including Emily Marshall as a new K-12 music teacher, Christy Robertson as an elementary teacher and Caleb McAdoo as a secondary science teacher.
