The Penguins yesterday introduced new defenseman Parker Wotherspoon, who signed a two-year contract on July 1st, the first day of free agency. The 27-year-old is a right-handed shot who is known for his toughness but rarely draws penalties. Last season, he was called for only five penalties, all two-minute minors.
Wotherspoon says he is ready to go.
Wotherspoon has spent his summer preparing for his Penguins’ debut, and he’s eager to get to training camp next month.
Wotherspoon doesn’t know much about Pittsburgh, but he lives in the same apartment building as Penguins teammate Danton Heinen in Vancouver, and they’re pals.
The Penguins begin training camp on September 17th. Prior to that, the Penguins will send their youngsters to Buffalo for the Sabres’ Prospects Challenge. The Pens’ prospects will play Boston on September 12th, Columbus on the 14th, and Buffalo on the 15th.
