It was another rough outing for Andrew Heaney and the Pirates last night, as the Bucs lost their third straight game. Joe Block has the recap of a loss to the red-hot Brewers.
Manager Donnie Kelly says the Pirates are trying to find the right situations to put their younger players, especially their pitchers, in position to succeed.
The Pirates activated reliever Chase Shugarts before the game and he threw three innings, allowing one earned run and striking out five. He’d been out since July 8th with knee inflammation. Dauri Moreta was send down to Indianapolis to open up a roster spot for Shugarts.
ALTOONA CURVE
The Altoona Curve open a six-game set at Richmond tonight. It’s a key series for the Curve, who lead the Flying Squirrels by a game-and-a-half in the Eastern League Southwest Division second-half standings.
Right-hander Antwone Kelly takes the mound for the Curve. He’s been outstanding in his first seven starts for Altoona, with a 2-2 record and a 2.29 ERA.
